UNITED KINGDOM RESTAURANT WORKSPACE
Choose the next step for your UK café or restaurant
Start with the practical question: opening requirements, a recipe price, a staff rota or a delivery receipt. The routes below connect that question to local guidance and a manual worksheet, with the limits of each calculation kept visible.
Opening: identify the nation, council and activity
Describe the premises and the food work before choosing a form. Ordinary registration, approval for certain activities and other opening permissions are different tasks. A completed cost plan does not decide the route or authorise the business to trade.
The Food Standards Agency’s starting-a-food-business guidance applies to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. For Scotland, use Food Standards Scotland’s registration and approval guidance. Contact the relevant local authority about your actual operation.
- Use the UK food-business preparation guide to organise the location, activity, records and questions for the authority.
- Select GBP in the startup budget and cash-runway planner. Record current quotes, setup payments and recurring cash needs.
- Keep deposits included in a quote from becoming extra costs, and distinguish confirmed money from hoped-for future sales. Ask for the missing evidence before committing to the opening date.
Plan the rota and the next delivery of stock
List preparation, service, handover and closing work by daypart. Use the staffing and rota cost planner in GBP to set out headcount, hours, breaks and the cost assumptions you enter. Check whether the plan covers the busy station as well as the total hours.
The planner does not determine lawful pay, holiday entitlement, paid breaks or employment status. Keep the actual payroll and employment review separate. A sales-per-hour improvement may reflect stronger demand rather than a change in staffing efficiency.
Use the supplier-control guide and stock reorder planner to connect expected usage with usable stock, lead time and incoming orders. Check pack rounding and storage before buying. Commercial stock targets never replace safe storage, shelf-life or other validated food controls.
Match Just Eat or Deliveroo records to the bank
Begin with one outlet, GBP throughout and a clearly defined period. Save the original financial record and the bank receipt reference. Keep activity, invoice components, transfers and bank posting dates distinct.
Read the Just Eat UK invoice and analytics guide or the Deliveroo UK payout and refund guide. Current screen paths, charge definitions and available reports should be confirmed through your authorised merchant account.
The manual payout troubleshooter helps frame a specific missing-document, timing or unexplained-difference question. It cannot access the account, dispute a charge or verify a payout. The current extension and file analyser do not provide a released Just Eat or Deliveroo connection.
Make the next customer-facing change observable
Check that a customer can find the intended menu, service hours and ordering destination. Give each update an owner so a temporary closure or changed collection instruction does not remain in place after the operation changes.
Use the Google Business Profile restaurant guide to organise those checks. Then choose a useful follow-up measure: a recurring menu question, a misunderstood collection step or an incorrect-hours complaint. Profile activity is not the same as confirmed restaurant sales.
The order-accuracy guide and customer feedback method connect the visible promise to the actual handover and response. Keep suspected causes separate from verified findings.
Use the right currency and keep private evidence private
The new planning workspaces offer GBP and USD labels; changing the label does not exchange money or change tax treatment. Use GBP records for a pound-based exercise and verify that revenue and costs use the same basis.
General guides and downloaded worksheets can still help, but inspect their sample currency and scope first. The original Zomato/Swiggy tools use their own supported formats and labels. A manual example from another country is not proof that your UK platform fields have identical meanings.
For repeatable checks, read the workbook guide before using the downloadable sheets. Keep actual reports in authorised business storage, and use fictional or properly redacted examples for public questions.
Keep one useful next action
Save the source records, the assumptions you changed and the decision you need to make. A calculator result is a starting point for a review. Recheck it against the actual period, current agreement and relevant local requirements before acting.
